Everybody is Talented...Thank God!

As Euland  can recall a writing class she had for three year consisting of all kinds, I share a similar experience. After a 5 year break between high school and college,  my first semester at Santa Monica College I took a writing class. It was a prerequisite for the equililant to English 101. I was already sort of embarrased or insulted that I needed to take this prep course. I guess I thought I was smarter than that. Obviously this brought on anxiety that almost  stopped me before I even started.

In the class, I met all sorts of people from all over the world that were all ages and shapes.  As we shared our compositions in class, we learned so much about each other and our fears for criticism.  There were also several really heartfelt tear jerking narratives as well that I'll always remember. I was taken aback by all the talent and courage that we all summed up to complete the course while we  shared our lives and struggles with one another. I remember getting a spelling correction  of eaves drop from ease drop. (haha... I know) But, I didn't know! I remember my teaching saying lovingly that it was funny to her. I was still humiliated and got all worked up and afraid to write for a few days. But that didn't last long, as I had a required course to finish.

Mostly, I remember my Prof being very loving and introducing the class not only to the required curriculum but also ideologies around Emotional Intelligence  and Trauma and Recovery.
